I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOO voting for Obama in 2012. I think the Tea Party has hijacked the Republicans and Boehner is a pupet. I have never seen a president so disrespected and I don't like it.
under obama the us dollar has lost much of its spending power, and with qE-3 from obamas all star FED, the dollar is on its way to being completely worthless. my suggestion, if obama gets reelected, all of us poor folks should buy lots and lots of toilet paper, not just because its used to wipe up filth like david degregory the propagandist. no ill tell you why 100 sheets of toilet paper soon will be much more valuable than 100 1 dollar bills.
toilet paper has more surface area. thats right david degregory, a sheet of toilet paper covers the better part of the average hand. a dollar bill covers about half of that. that makes it harder to keep the crap off your fingers. wiping ass with dollar bills likely will not be that great, and therefor a sheet of toilet paper with a larger surface area soon will be worth much more. some people like david degregory are all ready trying to figure out how to get around this, he will try to use 2 one dollar bills in one hand for a good wipe, but alas, this will work about as well as obamas presidency and the new pravda, msnbc. you see, the cracks between the bills will split, and the crack they wipe surly will soil the hand.
david degregory, the wise lesson learned from this-- when you play with a turd, you get crap on your hands. do you get my point mr degregory? im talking about the now openly white house controlled propaganda outlet msnbc, or as its now known pravda.
there was a time when the media and its reporters kept the government honest, and those figures who worked in that media took that job seriously, in fact thats why they became reporters. you mr degregory are an actor for a propaganda outlet, you have no integrity, you are a joke. America knows it, they all saw cenk ungar the young turks little speech, and then there was that "dick" incident. Mika and joes show taking blackberry orders from the white house before every show, and mika talking about it, does not help hide pravda. I wonder if mikas dad is involved in that, care to make a public comment mr degregory?
your ratings suck, your stations ratings suck, and your days in the spotlight are coming to an end. unlike the left who goes after advertisers and uses illegal rico level crimes to shut down their competitors, americans armed with information and a bad taste in their mouth for propaganda, simply turn off your show. putzzzz.
The reason why the Tea Baggers want to default is they are hoping that the default will KILL all social programs like Social Security and Disability. They hope that after default they will be able to keep from funding anything but their pet project the Military Industrial Complex
To all the people who voted for the Tea Baggers... You asked for it, You got it.........
in 2012 lets vote every single Republican't and Tea Bagger out of office!!!!
I agree with you David Gregory, why would you walk out talks with all this lingering around the debt ceiling being raised. The money is already spent crazy people!!!!!Anyone who can't see this, don't want to see it!!!! This is ridiculous!!!!OBAMA 2012..........
I suppose Joe is a genius with a economic degree because he totally overlooks the "turd" that George Bush left in the oval office. Two wars and failed economy are Obama's fault or is it just because he's "different". So much for de-regulation (see TARP) and tax breaks to help working guys like Joe. How's that mortgage thing working out for you? I suppose we all should subscribe to FOX News fair and balance approach, where rich guys like Rupert Murdoch tell you what to think because your just too smart to do it for yourself. Thanks Joe. Your a great example of what not to be like.
Dems biggest concern... How can we get any votes without "free" taxpayer money to buy them?
Some Democrats fuming at Obama
The aide said "the caucus exploded" after news broke of a possible deal between Obama and Boehner just before Lew's briefing. Democrats' immediate reaction to the news was that it "would be terrible for their constituents" because it went after all of their "sacred cows."
So Dems are allowed to have "sacred cows"? didn't Obama say there were no "sacred cows"?
"But it's his willingness to take on entitlement programs that conjures up memories among some Democrats of the tax deal he negotiated with Republicans with the clock winding down at the end of 2010 that reportedly had House Democrats chanting "Just say no!" in a closed-door meeting before eventually voting for the package."
Democrats chanting"NO!" to financial responsibility? Is anybody surprised by THE PARTY OF SPEND!'s hypocrisy?
"Congressional Black Caucus Chairman Emanuel Cleaver said African-Americans, seniors and children rely heavily on entitlement programs. Deep cuts to these critical programs would put the well-being of our families and loved ones at risk," he said."
So one entire race along with children and elderly rely on "entitlements" and the Black Caucus is working to keep it that way? Just shows how the color of green is all that matters to the greedy.
bush did not oversee QE1-2-ans now 3. this is OBAMAS DEPRESSION, CEOs will not invest in job creation because they say they are afraid of a marxit powerful vengeful and capitalism hating president named OBAMA. you broken record. if you think the average independent and democrat is blaming BUSH you are smoking as much crack as the purple lipped skinny red barry. google news steve wynn, then the founder of home depot, then the head of coke, then the head of pepsi. they all say their customers are petrified of obama, and no jobs will come back until he is out of office. in fact, wait ill get you the links. you wont bother to read them but i will post them for anyone who has not had a chance to read it.
the saddest part is they are saying that other CEOs are afraid to speak out against Obama, they are afraid he will harm their business threw the IRS and other heavy handed government tactics. you are voting for the death of america along with the media that fails to expose it, like msnbc and david degregory.
joe, yet again let me just blow up your post with facts.
Your whole post is based on the fact that "under obama the us dollar has lost much of its spending power"...
New flash. The dollar went in the tank between January 2001 and 2008. It reached it's lowest in July 2008. Before Obama was even elected. The dollar spikes after his election (and the corresponding passing of the first fiscal bailout bill), and remained relatively flat during his time in office.
<- see the charge of the US Dollar against the Euro over the last 10 years.
Sorry for bringing facts to blow up another one of your posts. Thats 2 in 15 minutes. I'm starting to see a trend here in regards to your posts.
chili: Glad you're voting for Obama again. Too bad you have no concept of economics. What part of "we don't have the money" don't you understand. Imagine, the repubs have proposed and voted on budgets and proposals to solve the problem (but, maybe you don't see any problems except that we can't get more in debt). The only proposal mad by the dems in the last 2 years got zero votes. Guess you don't like solid proposals.
Not sure what disrespect you are talking about. Obama hasn't proposed anything. Is not agreeing to nothing your idea of disrespect? Considering the guy is trying to destroy the country (his words are "transform the country" and "spread the wealth"), I'm not sure what respect you think he is entitled or how it should be shown. Quite frankly, the repub leadership has been more than respectful. What they should be doing is ask that he make a proposal of what cuts he's willing to make and how he would change the system to eliminate the debt. To date, he has done nothing. Quite frankly, Obama has been, since he took office, disrespectful of the United States, our Constitution, and just about every industry in the country. He hates capitalism and is determined to destroy it. And that means he is trying to destroy the country. It's that plain and simple.
Rather than voting for Obama, why don't you move to Cuba, Russia, China, or some such similar place, then you can instantly get what you want.
Justin....Apparently you and the government dont recognized the inflation that has happened over the last two yrs.....The dollar is weak....the only weaker currencies are from those countries that have an even worse spending problem than us......Is that who you are comparing us with??
J.A. Yes the dollar is weak. My point was it's been weak. And it went on that long downward slope well before Obama was even elected. The dollar tanked in the 8 years of a republican controlled presidency and congress.
The dollar while still weak has about the same spending power it had when Obama took office. I acknowledge that doesn't say much, but heck it's hard to to climb a mountain when you're rolling down the side of a mountain.
Since the Repbulican's took control of the house in November 2010 the dollar has started to trend back down again? Why? because nothing is getting done. The ecomonmy is being stagnated by a party that only knows the word "No".
the dollar did not trend down because republicans won in the elections....It trended down because the world realized that we are in trouble and that our debt and spending have been out of control....And, that the libs are not offering soluctions, just more of the same....
Joe: Your mind has been captured by aliens who arrived in a space ship with the letters G O and P on its side. They resemble U.S. Citizens at first, but quickly deteriorate into irrational haters who claim they are going to a tea party. Run while you still can!
If the only solution is to DRASTICALLY lower the rates for the wealthy while RAISING the rates for the rest and reducing Social Security and Medicare.....THEN DEFAULT ALREADY!!!
I am amazed that ANY Democrat supports this bill!! Though I can understand why Republicans would - they never liked social programs or the non-affluent. Wonder how Dems will feel later when they see their taxes jump while the wealthy once again triumph....Like Victors!! Really??
Democrats seem to be getting a bit sensitive to the truth.
For instance, CEO pay is at record levels again while regular folks pay is still dropping once adjusted for inflation.
Despite or because of Obama’s health care reform (take your pick) health care costs are still rising rapidly. Few Democrat candidates ever champion this legislation during election season for some strange reason.
Democrats have joined Republicans in calls to reform entitlements (SS, MA and MC) while championing reductions in corporate tax rates. I will graciously opt out if the government pays me back what I paid in plus the prevailing interest rate charged to delinquent taxpayers through the same years. Bet I am not offered this option!
Obama picked GE executive, Jeffrey R. Immelt, to head his Jobs creation program. The same GE that has outsourced jobs with zeal and paid no Federal Income taxes for years.
Obama indicated the tax cuts for the wealthy were too expensive to continue as justification for needing top end said tax cuts. But then crafted another one of those last minute bargains that tripled the costs proving his original statement was a lie and cost was not ever a factor.
Obama stated he would consult with Congress prior to initiating a military action unless the US was in imminent danger. Yet, he failed to do so with regards to the ever ongoing Libyan episode.
Appointed (Okay re-appointed) a Federal Reserve Chief that champions rising prices on everything except for wages.
Democrats have remained extremely quiet about the ever increasing gap between the rich and everyone else. Something they routinely acknowledged when they were the minority party.
They also never mention speculators as a source of evil anymore nor do they restate the proposal to force commodity traders to have the ability to take immediate possession of ½ of their contracts on hand to reduce rampant speculation.
Still have a 600 trillion dollar unregulated derivatives market; their Wall Street reform bill is constantly being taken apart by the very groups that crafted and championed the reform bill in the first place (FDIC, FRB).
There are more and more examples that I can cite to prove my case. So now let the name calling begin because that is all you have left.
A former Dem that thinks freely and knows both parties are failing this country!
The Republicans are intent on taking down President Obama, and if they have to crash the US and world economy to do it, they will.
The Republicans CHOSE to throw this country into this economic crisis. There is NO STATUTORY connection between raising the debt ceiling and negotiations to cut spending or reduce the deficit. And again, tonight, John Boehner reiterated the GOP's terrorist demands: the President must agree to cut spending ( on social programs, not defense), with no new taxes on even the wealthiest Americans. With control of half of one branch of government, Republicans believe they can arbitrarily dictate their demands and the rest of the nation must follow along. And we have at least two GOP presidential candidates - Pawlenty and Bachmann - actively cheerleading for default.
If the United States, for the first time in its history, chooses to renege on our our obligations, it will be because Republicans wanted it that way. If the US economy is thrown back into recession - or worse - it will be because Republicans wanted it to happen. If millions more are thrown out of work, it is because the Republicans care more about rigid adherence to their radical ideology than they do the well being of everyday Americans.
Republicans have precipitated this crisis with their reckless and irresponsible behavior. I pray that there is someone within the congressional GOP caucus who can steer the Republicans away from the disastrous path they've chosen.

we dont do pravda in the USA. but we are in the OBAMA DEPRESSION
I can tear each party apart on their lies and ineptness without even breaking a sweat.
Let’s see - next retort as a defense will be .................’Our guys, the (fill in political party name) are not perfect but, (fill in different party name) are mutant aliens that wish us harm.....
This is what happens when you allow grown ups to act like little bitches. Obama has offered more cuts than any other democrat would in an effort to strike a deal, yet the republicans still are playing games. Remember, the sign of a fair deal is one in which neither side gets everything they want. The democrats have offered a deal like that but the party of no (hope) just doesn't get it.
Wow thank you Obama - for wanting to lower my social security benefits along with Medicare - programs I have paid into for more than 30 YEARS!!!!
Also for lowering the top rates while 'expanding the base', political speak for raising other group’s tax rates.
What is the deal Dems are you that scared or desperate for more money to spend? Are you PROUD of the apparent need to steal from the poor and working class now? Will Reid and Pelosi clasp their hands in victory when this is all over………JEEZ
Boehner has NO control of his caucus and tries to twist and turn to find a way to blame the President. He thinks he can go work with McConnell and Reid now....wasn't he just attacking that plan yesterday? He better call Grover to find out what to do next....I hear Grover thinks that a "clean" bill to raise the debt ceiling may be best now....geeeeeeesh!
Pacific: Time to wake up and smell the truth. You are right that there is no statutory connection between raising the debt limit and negotiation for cutting spending and/or reducing the debt level. But, you are naive if you don't think there is a connection. If there is no connection, then why have a statutory debt limit?
You are also wrong if you if you think that anything has to be done to pay our debts. The fact is that it will take $29 billion a month to meet our obligations on the debt. Taxes being received by the government exceed $200 billion a month. This is more than enough to pay Social Security, interest on the debt, the military and other mandated expenses. If we default on the debt, the only reason will be is because Obama chooses to default on it. That is the same with social security payments. Will he have to pick and choose? Sure! There is a lot of discretionary spending and services that are not essential that don't have to continue. So, we will see what Obama really thinks of America, the elderly, our obligations, etc.
Since Obama has increased spending 25% in 2 years, it doesn't take a genius to see that we can reduce our spending by 20% without any problem. Obama has made no proposals to reduce spending. The repubs have not only made proposals, but have passed them in the only body they have a majority in. Even the cut, cap and balance proposal was only defeated by 3 votes in the Senate. That means that if 3 dems had gone along with it, it would be on Obama's desk (presumably to be vetoed).
Right now, the ball is in the dems court. So far, they have done nothing. You might direct your anger at the do nothing to help America dems. The only reason for the economy crashing is because the policies of the dems have caused it. Having the repubs go along with a disastrous policy will not prevent the economy from crashing. Only by stopping the destruction caused by the dems will the country be saved. It isn't a matter of the dems wanting the country to fail. It is a matter of opposing policies that are designed to destroy the country. A little bit of research will show that what Obama and the dems have been doing has failed every time it has been tried. Why would you think that those policies would miraculously work this time?
The liberal pro-Obama crap on this page is crazy. Can you folks see what is going on? We are 3 years into a terrible recession that should have been fixed in 2009. Obama could have done that but chose an absurd healthcare plan instead. Obama, along with the Treasury and Fed have no clue how to fix our economy and this debt BS is not at all surprising. Oh, and you liberals that think we can keep spending? $14 trillion in debt. Its like the republicans and the tea party are fighting with a spoiled child who cant keep spending.
Oh, and until the private sector begins to invest in America all of the entitlements are in jeopardy. It boggles my mind that liberals just don't get it.
Interesting tidbit just released - a new study by the Center for Responsive politics out Friday morning shows that Obama is relying more on Wall Street to fund his re-election this year than he did in 2008.
Hmmmm lets see dollar down, wages flat, lowering top tax rates per deficit reduction plan, stock market up, commodities up...........well heck yes they owe him.....or perhaps it's they own him....can't keep it straight.
Now if it was a Republican president…then I would be suspicious and outraged - ar ar
Smallbizgirl, it is your post that is full of crap. Well, that and a healthy dose of ignorance, but then again I come to expect that from republicans. Obama is still fixing the mess that took your buddy GW 8 years to create. He is also trying to do it with republicans dragging ass on everything in an effort to make things worse. That 14 trillion debt is at least half from republicans yet not a god damned one of you was complaining while they raised the debt ceiling time and again. Any rational person can see both sides spent us to this point. It is complete and utter bull@!$%# to blame democrat spending solely for the deficit.
i think obama never intended to pass any bill, he will grab more power, thats what he always does, he is a dictator.
obama will point to the 14th, say it gives me the right to ignore the power over the purse given only to congress, and take it upon himself to raise his debt limit.
that was always his big grand plan. when that happens, you will say, ohhh its ok barry is with us. you could not be more wrong.
if obama wanted a bill to pass, he had 2 years to write one, yet so far, he never has, and neither has one single democrat, do you really think that is because obama was to busy playing golf and having parties, waking up at 10am, and chatting with fareeid zacharia?
The "Party of Spend" is at it again. They are bankrupting our country. Time for Obama to get ready for his big $35,000 a plate birthday/fundraising party in Chicago on the 2nd. By the way, the housing mess was a direct result of Clinton's mandating banks give home loans to unqualified buyers with zero down. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac joined in.
"the saddest part is they are saying that other CEOs are afraid to speak out against Obama, they are afraid he will harm their business threw the IRS and other heavy handed government tactics. you are voting for the death of america along with the media that fails to expose it, like msnbc and david degregory."
---------------------------
So...how do you explain the existence of wealthy Americans not only strongly implying in their public statements that the right-wing leadership is wrong in how they are handling the nation's economy, and criticize their plans for America's future economy? A growing handful of rich people in the U.S. are also asking our leaders -- including President Obama -- to do the right thing, and raise their taxes to help the U.S. economy, recover.
Does this mean that these CEO's are afraid to talk to people in the White House, and that by doing so he will harm their businesses ...as you claim that some CEO's are afraid to do?
Who are these CEO's that you claim are afraid to talk?
Here are some that aren't afraid to ask their leaders to increase their taxes.
And I'll give you a hint: Most of these wealthy people that are promoting an increase in their tax rates don't care to vote for Republican Tea Partiers like you, because they see how the radical right-wing wants to increasingly destabilize the nation's economy, by promoting selfish, self-serving, and naive policies that grow the gap between "the haves" and the "have-nots" to absurd levels. Even billionaire Warren Buffet and his supporters explained in other news interviews that the growing wealth gap is beginning to seriously undermine our nation's democracy.
And it's also funny... I don't hear about anyone on the right asking their financially-secure peers to give out more tax money out of their own pockets, to help out this country's non-wealthy population via the common good or as a collective good, advocating an increase on tax revenues to help out the public sector. Now why is that? Why is it I don't hear from anyone on the right, saying that just to be fair, they need to be taxed more?
Well, here are a few wealthy people on the center and on the left, that's aren't afraid to ask.
I'm just saying can you please explain the last two years of the "mess that took your buddy GW 8 years to create" happened? My memory is a little fuzzy, but I don't think a president can pass laws all by himself.
rradiko-- warren buffet just spoke out against obama too. the reasons croni corporatists get in bed with obama is because for big business obama is pay to play, and when you pay, all sorts of government laws are created to give those in the club every advantage over their competitors, like the health care waivers. where do you think obama is getting his 1 billion reelection dollars from, atlantis? sure is not broke college kids and recent hope and change grads who have no chance at finding a job whale obama is in office. and pal, wealthy conservatives give far more $ and time to charities than liberals ones, far more, they tend to do it quietly as well, its not to be seen, liberals tend to need a press conference to do it. the difference between left and right is the right does donate time and money to others, liberals just want to take the money from other people with the power of the government in the name of helping the little guy, funny its an easy thing to want if its not your hard earned money.
Just reading these comments makes me think that we deserve everything we get. None of you partisan cheerleaders has a clue. Obama's giving up too much, Obama isn't giving enough. God just shut up! Politics have boiled down to a pissing match and one party HAS to win. No wonder the middle class is dying, when one party gets its way the middle class loses. We deserve default. I'm pulling my money out of my 401K tonight.
ChiliBean-3786288===Gee you have a very short memory. Toward the end of Presidents Bush's term the liberals called him everything under the sun and none of it was nice. Now the shoe is on the other foot. We have another lousy President and you think people are disrespectful. Come around where I live and you will find nothing but people that are mad as can be. Obama is not a President he is a fake, a fraud and a complete fool. This is a liberal site I forgot about that and Obama is the smartest president of all times. Ha, Ha, Ha right.
Q: Has the Obama administration allowed corporations to "opt out" of the new health care law?
A: No. The government has granted more than 200 waivers, but these merely give companies a temporary delay before being required to improve the coverage of cheap, bare-bones plans they currently offer.
FULL ANSWER
We’ve received several questions about whether businesses have been able to opt out of the new health care law. The companies haven’t been granted permission to ignore the entire law, as the Facebook post quoted by our reader might suggest — but many have been given one-year waivers to delay compliance with a key insurance mandate that was put into place this fall. The White House says it instituted the waiver process to enable those companies to continue to provide limited-benefits plans — cheap, bare-bones policies called mini-med plans — until the law is fully implemented in 2014.
[A]s of Dec. 3, the federal government had approved a total of 222 one-year waivers that allow the insurance plans at companies like McDonald’s, Jack in the Box and Ruby Tuesday, and unions, to ignore the requirement on annual limits. Far from being "Obama’s buddies," as the Internet post claimed, the restaurant industry, through the National Restaurant Association, opposed the legislation.
The companies that have been approved for the waivers must reapply for them next year. Waivers are available until 2014.
Witchrunner: The only truth to smell here is that the Republican party has been overrun with ideologues who are focused on the single goal of bringing down Barack Obama, and if they have to bring down the American economy to do that, so be it.
The fallacy currently promoted by the armchair economists of the right is that we can choose not to raise the debt ceiling and suffer no consequences. I doubt your figures are better than those available to the Secretary of the Treasury, who said last week projected revenues for August are +/- $172B to meet expenses of just over $300B.
So yes, we can service the debt, but anyone who breezily claims we can cut government spending +/- 44% in a month is either intentionally disingenuous, or a fool. Or both. Even assuming we can meet social security and medicare, there will be massive economic disruption throughout the economy depending on what gets cut (defense contractors, federal workers, transportation, etc). It's ironic - and laughable - that Republicans claim to be so piously concerned about the economy that they oppose any and all taxes (even those slated to begin 2-3 years from now) but see no problem in pulling $130B out of the economy - in one month.
And, finally, the inescapable truth is that paying some of your obligations while stiffing others does NOT enhance your credit.
Congress has raised the debt ceiling literally dozens of times, and historically, it does not entail the kind of crisis that threatens to tank the economy. As it needed not to have this time. We have a crisis now because Republicans have chosen to precipitate one.
As to the rest of your post, there's not much to say - it's like you've been in cryogenic hibernation for the last 5 years and somehow missed the economy tanking in 2007, the Republicans doing nothing to stop it (Lehman), the Republicans opposing each and every measure to try to make things better (TARP, stimulus) etc, and you call this the 'Democrat's economy'? Except there's no such thing as cryogenic hibernation. Which pretty much leaves us with intentionally disingenuous, or a fool. Or both.
d- nice-- pulling your money out of your 401k is a very smart thing to do, the obama admin and the FED are gunning for the 6.5 trillion in private pensions and 401ks, in fact the FED has tapped into the public sector pension funds to cover the spending, and they want it all, none of it is taxed and this administration thinks your money belongs to the government first, watch.
you are reading propaganda, ive been watching the number grow to over 1500 i believe waivers, all over many many many news sources and government sites, many, many, many, many........ i now think fact check should be called provda.org because its facts suck.
U.S. halts new applications for waivers on health coverage rule
Beginning in September, employers that offer health coverage will no longer be able to seek a waiver from rules mandating that their plans provide at least $1.25 million worth of coverage annually.
The Obama administration is ending a controversial program that allowed employers to avoid a key requirement of the new federal healthcare law.
Beginning in September, employers that offer health coverage to their workers will no longer be able to seek a waiver from rules mandating that their plans provide at least $1.25 million worth of coverage annually.
This year, employers were banned from offering plans with annual limits below $750,000. That limit rises to $1.25 million in September and will rise again a year later. In 2014, plans will be prohibited from placing any annual limits on coverage of essential benefits.
real american and all you left wingers---- factcheck.org is owned by the left wing annenburg foundation that obama started and bill the terrorist cop killer ayres help found, it is not a legit site like say consumer reports or the dictionary. its propaganda and fools eat it up, never use fact check.pinko when debating me, i will not tolerate propaganda in my debates with others.
So did Obama "Change the goal line", or is Boehner wrong? Here's a hint;
Obama said recently that they were negotiating $3 in budget cuts for every $1 of tax increases, but in Obama's press conference, he said that the latest 'deal' he was pushing was $1.65 Trillion in Budget cuts for $1.2 Trillion in new taxes. That's only $1.38 in cuts for every $1 in tax increases.
I have to believe Boehner on this, and it looks like Obama 'Speaks with a forked tongue'.
How can you 'negotiate' with someone that is not honest and keeps changing the rules.
PS - The Republicans have explained their plans to cut the Budget in detail, and have actually PASSED several bills to increase the debt limit, but we still have not seen a single written proposal from the Democrats, including Obama.
If Obama and the Democrats are really looking out for America why would you nix a deal over 400 billion. So taxing the rich is more important than taking care of the country? Roy your right his numbers don't add up. He thinks we will believe anything he tells us. Problem is to many do. Not enough people question.
Pacific: Nice recitation of the facts. Too bad that you fail to see the significance of it. Let's make it plain and simple, using your figures. 44% of every dollar the government spends is borrowed money. We are currently $14.7 trillion in debt. I'll add the fact that Obama and the dems have increased spending by 25% in just 2 1/2 years. Now, the repubs have passed plans to cut spending and raise the debt limit. The dems have not even proposed a plan. Heck, they haven't even proposed a budget, which is Constitutionally required, for the year that ends Sept. 30, 2011. Now, who is being irresponsible? Is it really responsible to just let Obama continue to spend as much as he wants and dig us so far into a whole that the credit of the US and the economy are in such disarray that the country will have no way of digging it's way out?
The only way to save the country is to force spending cuts. Just based on these facts, it's a no brainer to reduce spending 20%. Just go back to 2008 spending levels. None of the additional spending was necessary, and it still isn't. Rational people reduce their spending when they are short on cash. The dems have shown not one iota of sense regarding this. To fail to fight this fight is to intentionally drive the bus off the cliff. There's a reason that there is no compromise. It's because the dems have no intention of compromising. Quite frankly, if I were in the repubs shoes, I'd adjorn the house and go home until the dems decided they are serious about doing something about the problem. As it is, with no proposals made by the dems, all the repubs are doing is bidding against themselves. Right now, this entire economy is all Obama and the dems. So far, they have done absolutely nothing to help things and everything to make things worse. Sad, but true. Personally, from everything I've seen, I can only conclude that it is intentional. It's right out of the marxist handbook. Make everything go to hell and then people will be willing to give government more power to fix things. As has happened every time the people becomes willing to give up freedom for security, they end up with neither.
What IS OBVIOUS is that in order to pay down a debt...you need that revenue and MORE.
Amend the 1600 pages of IRS tax loopholes, subsidies, write-offs, etc. that are the darling of the accountants who work for the very wealthy...then have that conversation about fairness.
Want to own hundreds of acres as a freebie write-off and claim depreciation: call it a "tree farm".
Want to get free travel and perks? : Invent a "Foundation" and then charge it 95% "administration" costs.
1600 pages on HOW TO advice for the wealthiest Americans.
Surely and clearly people can understand and justify the most basic of social knowledge that republicans would not know honor if it were staring them straight in the face. Sick of entire world laughing at us because of them. They are polarized to the point of stupidity.
Post 1.12 was not collapsed by the "community"....It was collapsed by another idiot liberal who doesnt want the public to hear the truth.....Disgusting...and stupid...
News Flash - Hegde fund managers are currently sitting on large cash reserves in anticipation of profiting from this impending default.
If those TP/GOP morons cost my family our hard earned retirement savings accumulated in my 401, I am going to get RADICAL on their ass.....and it won't be a *%^&$G TEA PARTY.
Countdown to Chaos was, at one point, one of the banners streaming across a news channel I happened to be watching, MSNBC, I believe, a little over a week ago. A forewarning? A foreboding promise? While you all sit here and banter back and forth about who's fault it is. What all of you refuse to realize is that our 'beloved' president is a puppet. That this country WILL crash and burn because it has been dictated by higher powers that it is to be so. History is repeating itself. So buy a gun, get some bullets, and buckle down. War among our own soil is coming. Just wait and see....
President Obama swore an Oath to protect and defend the Constitution. I feel as POTUS he should raise the debt ceiling by way of Executive Order.
Stop this BS. Obama has an obligated to the American people, even if Congress has forgotten.
The Republican Congress can take him to the Supreme Court, and challenge the validity of his actions there.
I believe it is in concert with the 14th amendment article 4 and the 6th amendment. Having been a Constitutional Attorney and teacher, I can only hope this strategy has cross his mind. I believe he has this option opened to him for an emergency or crisis. American must never default on her debts.
His job as the Executive Branch of the Government is to hold the USA together. I say raise the debt ceiling and let the Republican Congress challenge his authority to uphold the Constitutional edicts in the Supreme Court.
The Tea Party Obstructionists GOP are not adhering to their oath however, they want to adhere to Grover Norquist's pledges....side oaths ( especially with non elected people) are not in the Constitution.
Norquist's special interest group is the Scourge of this Republican Congress
This guy is either on Obama's payroll or on drugs. What does he mean Obama has never used the "BULLY PULPIT"?. We have seen Obama more on television than I see my family. Keep it up Boehner you have them on the run.
Wilberta: Interesting concept: Uphold the Constitution by violating the part of the his pledge to uphold laws. Amazing. Unfortunately, Obama probably agrees with you. You both don't think the Constitution means anything. Plus, the cost to service the debt is only $29 billion a month. We certainly are bringing in more than enough to service the debt. So, you can skip the false argument. But, you want to tell Obama that he has the obligation to pay our debts first before he pays his cronies and all the unconstitutional pork.
Old Pharmacist - According to MSNBC, you are wrong. They have stated matter-of-factly that Wall Street is to Dems as Big Oil is to Repubs. Based on that premise, your complaint with hedge fund managers (whose income is not taxed as ordinary income, BTW, and at a much lower rate than yours or mine) needs to be taken up with Dems.
All this talk about “taxing the rich” is sounding nauseous. Anyone in this country can become “rich” through hard work, making sacrifices, through careful management of ones resources and a bit of luck. So let’s not extinguish the dreams of millions who embark on this journey everyday so that they too one day can say yes, we are rich.
Leveling the playing field will surely squeeze the last breath out of this country, just like it did in Eastern Europe during its recent history. So let’s not go there!
The President’s experiment in making us eat from “his bowl” is not the kind of future we should be aiming for!!
As usual the idea of trade tariffs and zeroing out foreign aid are not even being discussed. If YOU were in a budget crunch you would stop buying coffee and cigarettes before you stopped buying milk and bread but as a nation we are sending money overseas to fund THREE wars, yes Lybia is a war, and to fix every natural disaster that befalls the rest of mankind. Meanwhile the rest of the world turns a blind eye to us while our people starve. But why shouldn't they when our own government does as well?
Before we cut social security or military spending lets first cut all the moeny that hemmorages out of this country to feed our enemies. Before we try to eliminate things that benefit Americans lets stop allowing companies that want to make money in America ship the production jobs overseas. We need to stop the money hemmorageing out of the system before we decide what we need to amputate to save the patient.
Old. 1.55...Who is it that is playing the game of chicken with our economy, spending and debt??? Liberals should be limited to doing that in their private lives, but not with everyone elses futures....Throw away your own future to bankruptcy and debt...quit insisting that the rest of us must also....Quit telling us that we have no choice, that we must follow the spenders orders and sacrifice our lives...for nothing sane....
Why not send cameras and news crews to the White House tomorrow morning at 11am Eastern to cover the answer to the question "what will the GOP and Dems do to stave off a default"? If bad press won't get the right response, what will?
Wall Street will. When Congress voted not to pass TARP in 2008, the Dow lost over 700 points in one day. Congress passed TARP less than a week later. The stock market hasn't had a strong negative reaction to the brinkmanship in Washington; if the market tanks, then the politicians will get some legislation passed. My guess is by that time the US credit rating will already be downgraded, whether the debt ceiling is raised or not, which would result in the taxpayers paying more interest on the bonds than most of the tax revenue hikes in any of the proposed plans. Washington cares less about Main Street than about Wall Street.
66% of americans support the passed house cut, cap, and balance plan. yet obama who has no plan, nothing written down says he will veto it, harry reid says he will not allow the bill to pass in the senate.
note poll question 23.
74% of americans support a balanced budget amendment, which is in the cut, cap and balance passed house bill. the 8% difference reflects conservatives who disagree with raising the debt limit at all, the cut cap and balance does raise the debt limit if a balanced budget amendment is made into law. obama and his left wing media propaganda machine has slandered the balanced budget amendment, calling a "cult" law, extreme, and radical. they are saying they will not do what 74% of americans want them to do, and are calling 74% of you a "cult" , extreme, and radical. who the hell do these dictators think they are?
note poll question 25
who does this administration work for, the american people or obamas agenda? obama and his dem house and dem senate failed to bother to even pass a budget, and did not pass one since the nov midterms. he has offered no written budget plan, something that takes at least a month to complete with cbo checks, and belittles the only people who have, the house, and when we did pass a bill that 66% of americans support he trashes it and says it has no chance and will be vetoed, along with dirty harry reid. how much longer are you going to put up with this crap?
now who is not compromising? if you pay attention you know this is obama who is making this not work. if you say otherwise, you are a liar who spews obamas propaganda.
Karen you are right. Unfortunately, that "Lets see what Happens" mentality seems to bring disaster to Main Street Americans who simply cannot afford another financial melt down again. The first one was devastating enough.
Joe, I took a look at your attached PDF, and WOW. Talk about picking and twisting questions to fit your agenda.
Your first statistic in your post the question has almost nothing to do with the cut, cap, and balance bill. It specifically asks about the balance part. Yeah people agree with that. But the "Cut & Cap" part ... oh well that wasn't even part of the question. It had nothing to do with the bill itself. Now let's look at some other questions and responses based on your own poll.
Question 21:
21. In some proposals, Congress would raise the debt ceiling while cutting between two trillion and four trillion dollars in government spending over the next ten years and raising taxes on some businesses and higher-income Americans. Would you favor or oppose this proposal?
July 18-20 2011
Favor 66% Oppose 34% No opinion 1%
Question 22
22. In another proposal, Congress would give President Obama the ability to raise the debt ceiling several times in the next 18 months while cutting a smaller amount in government spending and not raising taxes at all. Would you favor or oppose this proposal?
July 18-20 2011
Favor 34% Oppose 65% No opinion 1%
Those 2 questions right there directly dispute your "66% of american's favor the cut, cap, & balance" bill. American's want a fair bill. A bill that includes spending cuts along with revenue (aka tax) increases. The republicans and tea party members REFUSE to budge on that latter issue. That and only that is the reason this fiaso still drags on. Need more proof of that?
Question 24:
24. Now I'm going to read you some of the specific proposals for cutting government spending and increasing taxes that have been suggested as part of the discussions on the debt ceiling. For each one, please tell me whether you favor or oppose that proposal as a way to reduce the amount the government owes. (RANDOM ORDER)
(first number: Favor; second number: Oppose; third number: No Opinion
Cutting federal subsidies to farmers: 31%; 66%; 2%
Cutting pensions and benefits for retired government workers: 30%;68%;2%
Cutting defense spending: 47%; 52%; 1%
Cutting the amount the government spends on Medicaid, the federal health program for the poor: 22%; 77%; NA
Cutting the amount the government spends on Medicare, the federal health program for the elderly: 12%; 87%; 1%
Cutting the amount the government spends on Social Security:16%;84%;1%
Increasing the taxes paid by oil and gas companies by ending federal subsidies for those businesses: 73%;26%;1%
Increasing the taxes paid by businesses that own private jets: 76%;23%;NA
Increasing the taxes paid by people who make more than 250 thousand dollars a year: 73%; 26%; *
--- Your entire post just got blown up by the poll you referenced. Republicans refusal to bring any revenue increases to the table is a disgrace. Obama is actually going against his party and has brought to the table over 3 Trillion dollars in cuts.
P.S>> I happen to be blessed enough to be in the minority of people that will have their taxes increased (I'm a business owner, and I make more 250k a year). And for me to give an extra 3% of my income to help my fellow American's is worth that "sacrifice".
i posted the pdf, i referenced question 23, + 25. facts. yes i do believe the other poll questions are just as accurate. now listen to the steve wynn speech i posted business owner. post #1.6 fo ahead and pick that apart.
I'll give joe credit for TRYING to use facts. Even though he pretty much lied his a$$ off. Most conservatives don't even try to use facts. I don't think they even know their PC will look up information rather than just post BS on blogs. That being, said only 20% of the population thinks the debt should be paid off with just spending cuts.
Pacific NW Mark--steve wynn the democrat says he is speaking for all of his customers, he has lots and lots of customers, thats his business. if you would listen to his conference call with his board, you would know that he said that is what they are all telling him, that is why they will not do business are getting out of business, and will not invest in business ( job creation). I suggest you listen to the subject matter before you make comments, it supports my belief that I now have. the libs are libs because they just dont know any better. lack of education in the real world, just like that statement you made.
D-Nice- that stat may be very true, and it is a fact that 74% of the population wants a balanced budget amendment. obama says he will never let that pass. the reason being is that with a BBA obama can no longer grow the size and scope of government. and obviously americans want the size and scope of the government to stop growing. therefor obama is not governing according to the will of 3/4 of americans, or more. in this country the government and the president works for the people, the people do not work for the government or its leaders, growing the government costs the people more of their labor to pay for that larger government, hence obama is ruling like a dictator, and dictatorial governments have populations that work for that government. it is a simple concept once understood, but often misunderstood.
fox bla bla bla, bush bla bla bla, fair share bla bla bla, loop holes bla bla bla, tax the rich bla bla bal, spread the wealth bla bla bla..... do you guys even know where these talking points come from, and why is that your go to argument, cant you discuss the issues?
obviously americans want the size and scope of the government to stop growing
I think you're deluded. Americans want jobs. "Reducing the size and scope of the government" means laying off many of those Americans who are still working.
Want to see 15% unemployment before you can say "Ayn Rand"? Just go with the Tea Party and see where you end up.
Joe - A blanced budget at the federal level is a stupid idea. It's great at a state level though. What happens if we have a rash of natural disasters? The federal governemnt needs the ability to run a debt just in case we need to bail out the states. Spending needs to be cut, there is no debate about that, however, why can't we bring in more revenue to get the debt paid off faster. If we do it by only cutting spending we will pay billions more in interest, due to the simple fact that we could have paid it off faster. MY God even Grover Norquist has agreed with the president on this one and 80%of the country agrees with the president as well.
RealAmericansFirst--- you dont read or comprehend what you read very well, I said stop not shrink, i want it to shrink, i do not know what the stats are for americans and shrinking government. you may want to read threw ann ryand for some perspective on the motivation of others. try to comprehend it better, that may be why you put it down, lack of comprehension.
d-nice, weather you and obama think its a bad idea, its what 74% of americans want, so tuff. most of us did not want that god awful obamacare bill either but he rammed it threw like a dictator any way.
he government works for us, and if you dont do what we tell you, your ass is fired.
Frankly, I don't usually take comprehension lessons from a guy who can't even spell Pravda.
Do you have any estimates on what the unemployment rate will be if your teabagger friends get their way?? You need to know where you're going before you start cutting people off at the knees.
State government budgets are already in dire straits, and yet you want to take away their number one source of revenue (federal dollars)? Have you asked your governor how he feels about that lately?
USA Today
Federal aid is top revenue for states
Uncle Sam has supplanted sales, property and income taxes as the biggest source of revenue for state and local governments.
The shift shows how deeply the recession is cutting. Federal stimulus money aimed at reviving the economy and a sharp drop in tax collections have altered, at least temporarily, the traditional balance of how states, cities, counties and schools pay for their operations.
Better go ask those American corporations who are sitting on $1.9 TRILLION in cash to pony up. Corporate taxes are down to 12% of federal revenues - their lowest level in American history.
real american, soviet names are difficult for me, being a real american your communist lingo must be spot on. tell me about how marx almost got it right.
I notice, joe, that as usual you avoid all the facts and issues. Any idiot can call names (even if he can't spell them). It takes a brain to debate the facts.
RealAmericansFirst--what makes you a "real american". my spelling issues and lack of a brain make it tuff to figure, so why dont you lay it out for me, guy.
Joe, it's a bit odd that everybody here is against the balanced budget amendment, but still you say 74% are in favor of it. i believe that to be another example of twisted facts.
The United States would be so much better off if the GOP simply dissolved, just like the NFLPA, and all the constituent parts went and found a warm, fuzzy right-wing dictatorship they could destroy. I recommend they consider Iran, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Myanmar and North Korea.
These people haven't a clue as to how an economy works or what a government really does. They have done everything they can for the last 30 years to ensure neither one works here in the United States.
One more heart beat of right-wing America is an eternity too long.
Tax the rich now... (Love your "name"...it is as clueless as your post),
Apparently, you believe that we have an unending supply of countries lined up to lend to the US. Do you KNOW who we owe our soul to? Perhaps you don't care...as long as the check arrives the 3rd of the month.
Unbelievable stupidity in people who think our country must have money - if we've got checks to write. News flash for you...we're broke. And no, you don't rob your neighbor (the guy who has a job and has EARNED his pay) so you get your entitlement. Now we've got to do what everyone who has ever found themselves in this position...make some hard choices, cut back on things you want/and would like to do, and spend less.
What I absolutely love about this administration (cue: sarcasm) is that every day I hear that social security benefits for the elderly will be cut. For those who've paid into it (even though I know the pot has been robbed), they get their money. The rest of the freeloaders, planned parenthood, all the countries around the world lined up with their hands out, etc....good luck. Isn't it amazing that we don't hear that THEIR benefits won't be paid?
We all know what loopholes are, right? Loopholes are unethical methods of moving money around to AVOID COMPLYING WITH LAW WHILE EVADING PROSECUTION. It's not raising taxes! The rate was set long ago. It was not raised. The rate has been what it's ALWAYS been. They just found a dirty, underhanded way not to pay that rate like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xm3RTgItj4Y
So unless you're willing to, at the very least, close such loopholes as a form of raising revenue and demonstrate that corporations don't pull the strings of our government, then we know what you think, too, fascist.
fascist?????? GE obamas "business partners in government" (definition of fascism)
paid no taxes last year, got sweet hart government strings pulled for them left and right, own msnbc, and shocker, their profits are up 21%, same year they paid ZERO taxes.
throwing stones in a glass house is not a good idea.
Yes we are broke, and all people want is for everyone to pay their fair share. The wealth of the middle class has not grown in real terms since the oil embargo of the 70's, yet the the wealth of the upper two percent of this country has more than doubled. In the 50's (one of the most prosperous eras in history) the top tax rate for the wealthiest individuals was 90% and that was during the administration of republican president Eisenhower. And far be it from me to question your superior knowledge of the social security administration (cue: sarcasm), but it is possible for ss payments to stop if a default occurs because all the money for ss is just sitting in a trust somewhere- most of it is paid to recipients from those who are currently working which the treasury can choose to use for its intended purpose or pay bills it deems more pertinant
prof...excellent assessment....and yet you will hear the liberals say that it is all nonsense and the fault of those who want responsible government. the left(the spenders) who dont want to acknowledge that we are spending our country into poverty are chomping at the bit to make it even worse....and that is their solution.....You are seeing only solutions from them that will guarantee chaos....but they are hoping that they can fool the people long enough that their time and blame is gone. If the libs get their way, we will wake up in two or three yrs and the problem will be worse by two or three times......who would want to be the next president...or the next after that?...He will get all the blame and the negative reaction from those who are causing our problem....This country that we have known and appreciated will die an ugly death at the hands of the left....It is partially gone already...
prof, I can't help but admire the way you state categorically that "this country is broke" and then, in explaining why, you drag in Planned Parenthood without a word about two -- or is it three? -- unfunded wars in the Middle East, the deregulation that has been going on since the 1980s, and the projected surplus that was given away in 2001 to "those who earned it."
Yes, by all means, let's get rid of that noisome and expensive Planned Parenthood, and we'll throw in the budget draining NPR and the EPA and the IRS and the Departments of Energy and Education too.
Right, joe, I agree with you. That's why I said you should, at the very least, support closing loopholes as a means of raising revenue. Do you support closing loopholes? I do. The Republicans in Congress, however, won't even give up that much as part of a debt reduction deal. As such, I consider folks like them fascists.
WarhammerThree-- and folks like obama, right, don't be one sided. i want the non profits like the ford foundation, rockafeller, gates, annenburg foundation, media maters, you know the oligarchy foundations that fund left wing loon groups and npr taxed just like all the rest, that would only be fair, right.
Take all the brain dead lemming Repugnacants, ship them to Texas and let them secede from this country they're trying so hard to destroy. Some of my relatives included. Rick Perry make room.
joe - GE hasn't paid taxes for 10 years. Thanks to the tax code passed by Bush/Cheney in 2001.
The most egregious example is General Electric. Last year the conglomerate generated $10.3 billion in pretax income, but ended up owing nothing to Uncle Sam. In fact, it recorded a tax benefit of $1.1 billion.
How did this happen? It's complicated. GE's tax return is the largest the IRS deals with each year--some 24,000 pages if printed out. Its annual report filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission weighs in at more than 700 pages.
Inside you'll find that GE in effect consists of two divisions: General Electric Capital and everything else. The everything else--maker of engines, power plants, TV shows and the like--would have paid a 22% tax rate if it was a standalone company.
It's GE Capital that keeps the overall tax bill so low. Over the last two years, GE Capital has displayed an uncanny ability to lose lots of money in the U.S. (posting a $6.5 billion loss in 2009), and make lots of money overseas (a $4.3 billion gain). Not only do the U.S. losses balance out the overseas gains, but GE can defer taxes on that overseas income indefinitely. The timing of big deductions for depreciation in GE Capital's equipment leasing business also provides a tax benefit, as will loan losses left over from the credit crunch.
pjam09 - You keep posting that same thing but really all it does is show how the republicans are refusing to compromise. Obama has given up so much to try to make a deal the democrats are mad at him. Don't you understand. You keep posting it like it bad for Obama, actually it's the opposite
i want the non profits like the ford foundation, rockafeller, gates, annenburg foundation, media maters, you know the oligarchy foundations that fund left wing loon groups and npr taxed just like all the rest, that would only be fair, right.
Oh, good grief. Do you know what part of corporations get taxed? PROFITS. So tell me, genius, how does one tax the profits of an organization that doesn't make profits, hence the term NON-profit?
See, there are no loopholes to close for the non-profits you listed because they don't use any loopholes. They have no profits to tax. The money they bring in goes back into operating costs.
Why folks continue to bash charitable organizations that help the poor and underprivileged while defending multibillion dollar, multinational (i.e. NO LOYALTY TO YOU OR THE U.S. of A.) corporations that pull sh!t like this --
U.S. corporations are expanding overseas, not so much at home. McDonalds and Caterpillar said overseas sales growth outperformed the U.S. in the April-June quarter. U.S.-based multinational companies have been focused overseas for years: In the 2000s, they added 2.4 million jobs in foreign countries and cut 2.9 million jobs in the United States, according to the Commerce Department.
Back in the U.S., companies are squeezing more productivity out of staffs thinned out by layoffs during Great Recession. They don't need to hire. And they don't need to be generous with pay raises; they know their employees have nowhere else to go.
Companies remain reluctant to spend the $1.9 trillion in cash they've accumulated, especially in the United States. They're unconvinced that consumers are ready to spend again with the vigor they showed before the recession, and they are worried about uncertainty in U.S. government policies.
-- baffles me. Corporate tactics like this are tantamount to treason in my eyes and anyone who supports or defends such tactics should be viewed as traitors to this country. Here's the link to the full article: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/43860044/ns/business-stocks_and_economy/
no, they are huge tax shelters for the oligarchy, the old money who set up the progressive income tax to keep new money from saving any real money. so they put their old money in non profits like the ford foundation and the rockafeller foundation and pay no taxes, yet still control their wealth. its all a rigged communist elitist tax structure, thats why we need to get rid of that shelter, and the progressive income tax, and replace it with a fair or flat tax, either way. the whole time they fund leftist causes that promote their "progressive" government. its for the little guy. the old money is well known for their progressive view, eugenics, you know that nazi thing that hitler learned from old money elitist progressive americans, you know that right? your progressive ideology led to the mass extermination of 6 million jews, countless forced sterilizations of american blacks, native americans, hispanics, up until about 1987. the leftist academics leave that out, did not learn that, huh, bub. you know thats why progressivism was pushed underground after WW2, but soon enough we forget and you progressives are back in left wing style. hay its for the little guy.
yes, any one who points out the progressive income tax was lauded by lennon as the one way to bring down capitalism, that the banking elite of the world are compromised of socialists and communists, like DSK, is a tin foil hat guy. yea socialism is for the little guy, sure.
As we continue the process of the bankruptcy of our country...the liberals are saying "lets acknowledge all the good things about all this process and continue them because there is no other solution that we will accept"...
Riiiiight. And Republicans and neoconservatives had absolutely nothing to do with this mountain of debt, right? If Bush would've repealed his tax cuts to help pay for little forays into Afghanistan (which I supported) and Iraq (which I vehemently opposed), like any responsible President should have during times of war (anybody remember the amount of sacrifice the American people made during WWII to support our troops?), then maybe we wouldn't be in such a deep hole as we are now. But, y'know, what do you expect when his vice president bellowed, Deficits don't matter." Then again, if he didn't lead us into Iraq in the first place...
Well, water under the bridge now. The take home point is, BOTH parties are responsible for this mess. BOTH!! One one. Not the other. BOTH. So please, go peddle your partisan gum-flapping else where.
That's besides the point. In your previous post before last, you said, Dems this and Liberals that. You put all the blame on one side. I simply called you on it. Then, you threw me a token "Bush was wrong" after the fact. This was DECADES of reckless fiscal policy that lead us to where we are today. And it's completely relevant to make sure blame is squarely placed on ALL parties involved, whether they are in office or not. And just to play Devil's Advocate here, do you seriously think for one minute that John McCain would've been doing any better than Obama right now? If so, then, in my opinion, you are seriously, seriously diluted.
Egads, I wish Ron Paul won the primary nod in 2008. At the very least, he would've gotten us out of the Middle East.
Someone is not telling the truth in this situation. I am inclined to think it's Boehner and the rest of his Republican and Tea Party cohorts. What a bunch of losers. Sorry truth is it's a "no win" for everybody, except the millionaires who just seem to keep getting richer, no matter what.*****************************************MdMn***
Oh but Mud, the Rich are misunderstood. And really..., the average American Shmoe is use to doing without aren't they? The rich on the other hand aren't, and will suffer more if they don't get EVERYTHING they want.
If I were a rich man and I was watching as this government makes the fatal mistake of more and more debt, I would be planning my future....and that would be to preserve my success by operating in a way that the government could not take it away....Many of the rich will be doing just that...and It will cost our country....I dont blame them. When a government turns its people against the successful, that country will collapse into the third world....
I know that the reactionaries of the left(those making the propaganda for the case of class envy and hate) will start calling me names over this statement....but, the situation is real and honest.....
Bill, so true. Tan in a can is probably crying in his martini glass as we type over the fact that Obama is going to beat him like a red headed step child tomorrow.
Bill, when you cant think of something intelligent, you revert to insults and name calling.... Try a little harder, and try to put a little reason in there every once in a while....
The Republicans continue to say that Obama has only just recently joined the discussion about the debt ceiling, and that he has offered no specifics as to what his plan would look like. Perhaps the President thought that Republicans would be mature enough to reason with Vice President Biden when he was in charge of the negotiations! All I see is the President willing to go against the wishes of his own party to reach a compromise, and no Republicans willing to do the same, unbelievable! I expanded on this in a blog I posted about a week ago...
And, as I understand it, it is the responsibility of the House to propose the legislation, pass it and send it to the Senate, and ultimately to the President. But, of course, let's blame Obama once more, even though it is the Republican controlled house's jog to propose the legislation, gain agreement from the Dems and pass it along.
J100 - THe House did pass Cut, Cap and Balance and then the Senate killed it, and Obama said he would veto it anyway.... try leaving your moms basement sometime.
If I'm not mistaken, we are still waiting for the Republican budget. You know, the one that they are trying to hammer out, but the GOP walked out on the meeting today.
Oh, and by the way, I'm a hard working business owner that pays plenty of taxes and creates jobs in my small business, open for 26 years now. It's hate like you spew that is destroying this country.
Cut, cap and balance is a compete peice of s hit. It's basically like the democrats putting all their wants for debt reduction in a bill and ramming it through the house just because they have the votes. That's all the republicans did, just so they could say, oh look we passed this and Obama shot it down. Then lemmings like yourself can spout the same BS. Obama offered the republicans more than he should have and they still didn't take the deal because they are protecting the top 2%. You conservative and your twisted reality just makes me sick.
D-Nice - what I can't fathom is how people making way less than $250k a year have been brainwashed into shilling for more money for those who are stealing it from them every day.
Corporate tax revenues are down to 12% of all federal revenue, their lowest percentage in American history.
The top tax personal income tax rate is at its lowest level since the 1931.
But payroll taxes are now up to 36% of federal revenue.
Republicans agree to everything!. Well....... EXCEPT for the RICH paying their FAIR SHARE of TAXES. RYAN'S PLAN reduces their FAIR share from 35% to 25%. CUT, CAP and BALANCE reduces it from 35% to 23%-29%. Yes SIR. Fair and Balanced just like Fixed News.
Both sides are the cause of this. If the average person handled their budgeting and expenses the way our government does he/she would be in jail. There is so much waste and pork on both sides of the isle. They all are full of BS. Term limits are a must.
We already have term limits...... It's called an election. However, think about who would take their place. More of the same? No one is successful in gaining a political position anymore unless they are scum. It's all money and BS with no interest in what is best for our country, only their tax supported career. Just look at the jerks we have seeking the GOP bid now. There's not one statesman among them. So, if you don't like the President now, think about who could become the President out of that bunch...... Scary, real scary!
Yeah term limits are neccessary, money/incumbents rule elections, and at least freshman congressman stick by their guns (sometimes literally). And though I think many of the freshman republicans are insane for not trying to compromise on this issue, they are basically doing what they said they'd do; if their constituents don't like it, they shouldn't have voted for them. Having a person in office for too long corrupts them, we need more freshman who won't play politics.
Of course, this would likely create a stalemate in the government...you really have to choose what you'd rather want: a corrupt, compromising government that makes "fake progress", or a stalemated government that does nothing. Or hey, maybe we could change the whole system all together!...too bad no one would vote for that...
These freshmen legislators signed the "pledge" thereby giving up their right to think for themselves....blindly follow Grover as he leads the country over a cliff....I can hear the chanting now...Grover says no, Grover says no, Grover says no, Grover says no......
I agree with term limits. How about all politicians, regardless of position, have one (1) six (6) year term? Alternate every TWO (2) years having an election and that way everyone gets what they want - except politicians who get SIX (6) years to hold ANY office. Though each level is exempt: local/city, county, state and then federal.
A career politician would (only) have a TOTAL of 24 years to be an elected official, of any type. Which is a H3LL of a long time for any type job.
If elected mayor of Smithsville, AnyState, then that serves as the ONLY local office a person could hold in Smithsville. Next would be county, state, and last federal. No matter what the position is, no 2nd term in an area.
Pipe dream? Yes. Obviously. But it sure would be nice. The elections would be devastating - absolute h3ll. But no politician would take chances - at least until elected.
BTW, I'm for election reform as well. Don't get me started on that.
A career politician would (only) have a TOTAL of 24 years. That is 20 years too long. We need a citizen politician. NOT a LIFER. Democrats and Independants sat out the last election, assuming that their neighbor voted, but he didn't vote either. NOW they are stuck with the TEA PARTY and OLD REPUBLICANS,who have been living off the TAX PAYERS MONEY for years. Time for them to get a REAL $9.00 an hour job and see how the other 98% of Americans live.
WHAT spending are you talking about? Cmon wise the hell up. Here are the facts.
11 years spent fighting a war that was totally unncessary and contrived by that genius w.
A huge wet kiss to the millionaires and billionaires by that genius W.
0 zip nada regulations that helped those thieves on wall street make a ton of money then get bailed out. who oh that genius w.
tax breaks for corporations to out source jobs.
tax breaks that make US corporations the 2nd lowest tax payers of all the industrilized nations.
OH you probably are refering to Social Security that we the middle and lower class fund. Had it not been drained by every president since your saint ronny. It would be totally solvent and have a surplus. no...?
Oh Medicare/medicaid. So now it's the tea party that wants to kill granny!
Wake up. These r's are killing everything in sight that dosen't have a big DOLLAR sign
Just shows how the color of green is all that matters to the greedy.
pjam09 - You keep posting that same thing but really all it does is show how the republicans are refusing to compromise. Obama has given up so much to try to make a deal the democrats are mad at him. Don't you understand. You keep posting it like it bad for Obama, actually it's the opposite
D-nice Obama has taken a lot also. His refusal to give the cola raises to over 50 million Americans cost them over 150-200 billon dollars in 3 years. I am also sick and tired of S.S. being called an entitlement. That is money paid by Americans through payroll taxes For their retirement. The money was STOLEN by both parties. If not it would have reserves of hundreds of billions if not more. But congress couldn't leave it alone and passed an amendment to tap into the Americans piggy bank and went on a spending spree. Now they call it an entitlement to justify it's rape. If their checks don't go out tens of millions of AMERICANS will be HOMELESS as well as HUNGRY. But what does the President(the worst in history) as well as congress care. When they are elected they are upper or middle class people but when they leave office they are millionaires how do you explain that
I dont like Obama at all so I am tainted, same as all of the W is the devil folks. Here is the issue, we have to stop spending money we dont have ($0.40 of every dollar is borrowed) or some time in the near future we are done and there will be no way to pay anything back. We are at $14T+ now, many economists have said we are approaching the point that it will be impossible to turn this around. W was not a fiscal conservative granted, however he did not spend money like O, not even close. In fact we have never had anyone spend money at this pace since the great depression.
What I keep hearing is that the rich need to step up and pay more taxes. The plain truth is that the rich more than pay their fare share (I am not one of the rich by the way). Here is the facts on who pays the taxes in this country. The top 1% already pay ~33% of the taxes, the top 5% pay ~65% and the top 10% already pay ~90%. The rich are already paying their fare share. We need to quit painting targets on these folks. It is easy to attack these people because they are successful but they are a main engine for creating jobs. Raising taxes does not create a single sustainable job, it actually does the opposite, it creates a drain. Creating class envy is terrible, the people that are already paying for nearly everything are always the ones that get attacked.
For those that harp that the debt ceiling needs to be raised again please let me know these two simple questions that really have nothing to do with which party is in office: is there any logic in giving a person increased spending on a credit card if they have no way to pay anything back and do you realize that somehow all of this debt needs to be repaid or interest payments will keep being assessed to the point in which you can not apy it back. Government (on both sides) will gladly countinue to spend our childrens future and not stop spending if you folks keep allowing them too. Any answers other than W is the devil?
The Party of No seems hell-bent on forcing us to default on our obligations... And subsequently send our economy crashing again. All so the Koch brothers and Paris Hilton can get another bonus tax cut.
I've prepared a little example that I hope will inform you on why exactly I believe raising taxes on the rich is a bad idea. The numbers are hypothetical, but the ideas aren't.
Imagine Bob is a rich guy. Right now, Bob has a variety of investment options, such as a commercial bond at 11% (after taxes, providing a return of 9%), and a muncipal (government) bond at 8% (but tax-free). Right now, because he wants to make more money, he'd obviously choose the commercial bond, as it offers a higher rate of return (9% versus 8%). So, even though Bob is paying taxes, he's still making more money than he would have with the municipal bond, so he's happy.
Now, let's raise the taxes on Bob. Suddenly, that commercial bond at 11% now only provides a return of 7%, making that municipal bond at 8% a lot more attractive. He chooses that, and is now not paying any taxes on the interest he earns. Paradoxically, you've lowered tax revenues by raising taxes.
By doing so, you've also created the side-effect of reducing the amount of money available for commercial borrowers. One of the major ways corporations raise money is through bond issues. You've now reduced the amount of money available for investment in things such as capital assets.
You may argue that we should not allow a tax-free treatment of municipal bonds. However, these bonds are issued by governments for things such as roads and schools. They have a lower rate of return because of their tax-free status. If you remove the tax break for these types of bonds, governments will be forced to raise interest rates, which will increase the costs of servicing these loans. This will be more expensive to governments.
Toasty - You're right, Dems forced us into this position through their unsustainable spending... and they have no intention of doing the right thing (financial responsibility).
Dems biggest concern... How can we get any votes without "free" taxpayer money to buy them?

Pjam, we know you were brainwashed by listening to fox news repeating the same bull@!$%# over and over, but we have brains and original thoughts on the 'vine and thus do not need you to post the same stupid @!$%#ing content three times on the same message board. Please stop.
Just wondering when the people most harmed by the DO NOTHING PARTY (TEA/PUBLICANS) are going to show up in Washington, D. C.? Will it be on AUGUST 3rd when they don't receive a check?
i agree, eric cantor has stated that he won't sign anything that has obama's signiture on it. no matter what. i think he has been promised a high position if he helps the GOP defeat obama in2012. big money people made that promise to him. i also think they made the same promise to McConnel, and he was going to do it, but woke up and realized what would happen if the economy failed. cantor hasn't been around long enough to know that he is playing with fire. he is like a 6 year old who was promised a trip to burger king, and doesn't care what he has to to get there. he is very immature. i'm hoping that after 2012, i never hear his name again. hopefully the damage he causes, can be mended. in some ways, he is like gw bush. thinks all of his decisions are the right ones. they were both born into money families. and both are spoiled little brats. i hope the american people see through them in 2012. life as we know it in america depends on it.
David... this isnt dysfunction... this is a right wing group attempting to turn the US into a corporatist state. To a person, they represent the interests of corporations and the monied elite! I find it rather surprising that you havent discussed "starve the beast" at all. This debt crisis is a deliberate creation of the GOP so they could produce the conditions where they could privatize the entitlement programs. They make no bones about it, they do not deny it, and they revel in it. Why do YOU deny it??
It's no secret that the last 3 GOP presidents signed TWENTY deficit riddled budgets that added over $11T to the national debt. If the had not, we wouldnt HAVE a debt crisis. If they had not also crashed the economy, ( since reagan, we always seem to be bailing out businesses under GOP presidents), we wouldnt be having this conversation at all and the probability is that our country's finances would be just fine!
and johnny.... tell me who's been doing the deficit spending a debt accumulation!
Both sides are not the cause of this, it falls right smack into the T Party lap. The rich man's party. They couldn't care less if the social security checks fail to go out, they don't like SS anyway. The failure of SS would be their Chrismas present.
Where in the oath of office does it state that these "Representatives" can take a pledge to an ideal which supercedes their responsibility of working for their entire constituency? Hopefully, Cantor saw that Virginia is on Moody's list of states which will have lowered credit rating if the contry defaults. They will get a double hit. At least he will have his principles to keep him warm.
norquist is the messenger boy, between the big money people and the GOP. he is actually very smart, and very evil.he promised those members of the GOP that he could guarantee success in their political career if they vowed to never vote to raise taxes. he then dumped loads of money into their campaign, to insure victory. the money came from the lobbyists, who got the tax breaks. of course the tax breaks were big money compared to the money spent on campaigns. norquist also stated that if any of his electees ever voted for tax increases that he would use the same tactics that got them elected, to make sure they lost in their next elections. noprquist is a snake. smart people know that you can't have dealings with snakes, because eventually they will bite you. that's why eric cantor will not let the debt ceiling be raised. some of the GOP believe that letting the country's credit tank will assure a victory in the white house in 2012. if that happens they will try to hang the blame on democrats. the tea party people will be gone after norquist gets what he wants from them. to answer your question, norquist is not an elected official, and he doesn't have to worry about himself being reelected. sorry i got off the track, i just get really pi--ed off when i see the country being held hostage by a little fruit cake who really doesn't care about america, just cares about his own personal gain.
'stop politicking and do your job as a public servant'. if you cannot perform, quit. let the others (who are willing) contnue to find proper solution benificial to all people. for once, try to serve the people. this is your mandate.
Isn't it a shame that the T Party and others in the Republican Party are willing to put this country's future at risk just for the sake of some of the richest Americans, and a belief that taxes on some of the wealthiest should not be raised, for this they're putting the future of the rest of us at risk. How utterly stupid, evil even, the devil would be proud. If they're are willing to put many of us into poverty just to prove a point, they are truly evil.
one must look at the sums of money in offshore accounts that await the tea party heathens when they are voted off the island in 4-6 years. money, not religion is the new opiate of the insane.
pjam you need to post something new and current and most importantly relevant. terms such as "sacred cows" sell well to morons. fox likes to give you a short sparse sound bite so you don't tax yourself with thought. as alan mcginess said so well in his tape from the 1970's: some people enjoy the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought. pjam you are one of these folks. when you have an original well thought out opinion call me. until then shut the @!$%# up.
To me the issue is this: where do we as Americans want to invest our tax dollars. The Repubs want us to invest in the wealthy, citing the (failed) idea that wealth is created by them. Dems want us to invest in the lower and middle class under the idea that a direct investment in these populations bring greater total stability and security to the nation. I grew up in a strong Repub home, but when I started thinking for myself and started looking at the data I saw that most of our debt came from recent Republicans - Reagan, Bush I, Bush Light (W). Under Clinton, we made progress and had surpluses - under the other Presidents we have debt, debt and more debt that surely leads to a strong economic bifurcation of the country. I find the Repub claim that taxes are strangling the wealthy as simply ludicrous. Were it true, we would have far fewer wealthy folks. . . . and they would NOT be getting wealthier (of course, they are getting wealthier.)
What is despicable is that these government clowns get paid with taxpayer money. They don't even earn their wages. They just steal from the U.S. citizens endlessly and we just let them get away with it!
I'm more in support of the economists who believe there should be no limit on the national debt. Before some of you jump on me, slow down.
The government borrows money to pay for programs that Congress approves. The President can encourage such programs; the President can veto bills, but all spending originates in the House and is approved by both Houses of Congress.
Once that obligation has been made, why should there be an artificial ceiling that prevents the country from meeting those obligations?
Now, we can argue about which federal expenses are worthwhile and which are not. What I may view as essential, you may view as a rip-off (or vice-versa). Likewise, we can disagree about where to get money to pay those bills. The only difference between a (bad) loophole and a (good) deduction is who benefits from it. We all know that if it benefits somebody else it's a loophole, but if it's our deduction, it's worthwhile. However, there should be no argument about whether or not the federal government should be able to meet those obligations.
I agree with Mark-1108891. British say "Spot on!", 70s hippies say "Right on!" and Target team members say "Bullseye!".
Congress passes all funding laws - if they do not, then it will not happen. Congress USED to then approve the expansion of the so-called debt ceiling, but that was deemed an enormous waste of time, so it became a super-sized box.
Now that box is too small. Mark points out that Congress (House of Representatives and Senate) BOTH agree on the legislation, AND President signs the bill into law. (If a veto, then Congress may override it and it then becomes law). IN ALL CASES, they approve what is considered ESSENTIAL spending - and it is up to the Executive Office (President and his/her Cabinet) to implement.
To implement means to fund it and that requires borrowing to pay the debt. WHY IS THERE A LIMIT? Mark is right, and all of us need to understand this basic functioning of our government - which needs to be reinforced on TV, in school, and instead of discussions about Jen rocking a leather dress!
Joe you might want to read those poll numbers again. More people favor raising taxes (like ronnie did)in that poll than getting a balanced budget amendment
the republicans are doing to president obama what lucy van pelt did to charlie brown. they have been doing it since the president took office. and they did it to president clinton and it led to a government shutdown. president obama needs to use the special powers of his office and raise the debt ceiling, announce what spending cuts there will be and what tax breaks he will end. it is obvious he was close to a deal and should use that deal as a framework. and he needs to stop being charlie brown.

How can we get any votes without "free" taxpayer money to buy them?

bbbbb bbb bbbb bbbb bush, awwwwwwwwwwww
bush did not oversee QE1-2-ans now 3. this is OBAMAS DEPRESSION, CEOs will not invest in job creation because they say they are afraid of a marxit powerful vengeful and capitalism hating president named OBAMA. you broken record. if you think the average independent and democrat is blaming BUSH you are smoking as much crack as the purple lipped skinny red barry. google news steve wynn, then the founder of home depot, then the head of coke, then the head of pepsi. they all say their customers are petrified of obama, and no jobs will come back until he is out of office. in fact, wait ill get you the links. you wont bother to read them but i will post them for anyone who has not had a chance to read it.

the saddest part is they are saying that other CEOs are afraid to speak out against Obama, they are afraid he will harm their business threw the IRS and other heavy handed government tactics. you are voting for the death of america along with the media that fails to expose it, like msnbc and david degregory.
Joe....Mom said get off the computer.
joe, yet again let me just blow up your post with facts.
I pray that there is someone within the congressional GOP caucus who can steer the Republicans away from the disastrous path they've chosen.
david degregory
under obama the us dollar has lost much of its spending power, and with qE-3 from obamas all star FED, the dollar is on its way to being completely worthless. my suggestion, if obama gets reelected, all of us poor folks should buy lots and lots of toilet paper, not just because its used to wipe up filth like david degregory the propagandist. no ill tell you why 100 sheets of toilet paper soon will be much more valuable than 100 1 dollar bills.
toilet paper has more surface area. thats right david degregory, a sheet of toilet paper covers the better part of the average hand. a dollar bill covers about half of that. that makes it harder to keep the crap off your fingers. wiping ass with dollar bills likely will not be that great, and therefor a sheet of toilet paper with a larger surface area soon will be worth much more. some people like david degregory are all ready trying to figure out how to get around this, he will try to use 2 one dollar bills in one hand for a good wipe, but alas, this will work about as well as obamas presidency and the new pravda, msnbc. you see, the cracks between the bills will split, and the crack they wipe surly will soil the hand.
david degregory, the wise lesson learned from this-- when you play with a turd, you get crap on your hands. do you get my point mr degregory? im talking about the now openly white house controlled propaganda outlet msnbc, or as its now known pravda.
there was a time when the media and its reporters kept the government honest, and those figures who worked in that media took that job seriously, in fact thats why they became reporters. you mr degregory are an actor for a propaganda outlet, you have no integrity, you are a joke. America knows it, they all saw cenk ungar the young turks little speech, and then there was that "dick" incident. Mika and joes show taking blackberry orders from the white house before every show, and mika talking about it, does not help hide pravda. I wonder if mikas dad is involved in that, care to make a public comment mr degregory?
your ratings suck, your stations ratings suck, and your days in the spotlight are coming to an end. unlike the left who goes after advertisers and uses illegal rico level crimes to shut down their competitors, americans armed with information and a bad taste in their mouth for propaganda, simply turn off your show.
we dont do pravda in the USA. but we are in the OBAMA DEPRESSION
Idiots - both your TEAMs suck.
MAW, your buddy GW doubled the deficit under his presidency. Look up what party he belonged to before you label dems the party of spend.
Joe,
You said:

LOLOLOLOLOL .... Oh, you don't like it ? My, my I am pained with your discomfort.
Lord, how soon we forget.
Man, you libs are pathetic - You can dish it but can't take it.
Ha, Ha, Ha right.
joe - Are you unable or just unwilling to read and do ANY research before you start typing nonsense?
From FactCheck.org:
Health Care Law Waivers
December 7, 2010
RealAmericansFirst
you are reading propaganda, ive been watching the number grow to over 1500 i believe waivers, all over many many many news sources and government sites, many, many, many, many........ i now think fact check should be called provda.org because its facts suck.
Kerplunkanomy!!
bout time huh
real american and all you left wingers---- factcheck.org is owned by the left wing annenburg foundation that obama started and bill the terrorist cop killer ayres help found, it is not a legit site like say consumer reports or the dictionary. its propaganda and fools eat it up, never use fact check.pinko when debating me, i will not tolerate propaganda in my debates with others.
So did Obama "Change the goal line", or is Boehner wrong? Here's a hint;
The very idea that Congress is causing fear, anxiety, discord, and distrust in all Americans is HORRIFIC.
Hey, joe...You have any relatives in Norway??
What IS OBVIOUS is that in order to pay down a debt...you need that revenue and MORE.
Amend the 1600 pages of IRS tax loopholes, subsidies, write-offs, etc. that are the darling of the accountants who work for the very wealthy...then have that conversation about fairness.
Want to own hundreds of acres as a freebie write-off and claim depreciation: call it a "tree farm".
Want to get free travel and perks? : Invent a "Foundation" and then charge it 95% "administration" costs.
1600 pages on HOW TO advice for the wealthiest Americans.
BTW: Lobbyists run our country.
Surely and clearly people can understand and justify the most basic of social knowledge that republicans would not know honor if it were staring them straight in the face. Sick of entire world laughing at us because of them. They are polarized to the point of stupidity.

keep phartzing...it is what we've come to expect with t-p logic
Post 1.12 was not collapsed by the "community"....It was collapsed by another idiot liberal who doesnt want the public to hear the truth.....Disgusting...and stupid...
News Flash - Hegde fund managers are currently sitting on large cash reserves in anticipation of profiting from this impending default.
If those TP/GOP morons cost my family our hard earned retirement savings accumulated in my 401, I am going to get RADICAL on their ass.....and it won't be a *%^&$G TEA PARTY.
Old....Oh yes....All hedge fund mgrs and wall streeters must be evil republicans, right??? The rich are all republicans.....news to the world....
JA...Republicans,Evil? Your words, but perhaps.
Greedy? Obviously if they intend to profit from this contrived farce.
My greatest concern is our "Leaders" (read Boner, et al) incredible stupidity while they play this game of chicken.
Who's in Wall Streets back pocket?

Karen, yours is a very reasonable assessment.
Couldn't agree more. Once the masters of the universe speak. Their puppets will act.
cnn poll jul 18-20
66% of americans support the passed house cut, cap, and balance plan. yet obama who has no plan, nothing written down says he will veto it, harry reid says he will not allow the bill to pass in the senate.
note poll question 23.
74% of americans support a balanced budget amendment, which is in the cut, cap and balance passed house bill. the 8% difference reflects conservatives who disagree with raising the debt limit at all, the cut cap and balance does raise the debt limit if a balanced budget amendment is made into law. obama and his left wing media propaganda machine has slandered the balanced budget amendment, calling a "cult" law, extreme, and radical.
they are saying they will not do what 74% of americans want them to do, and are calling 74% of you a "cult" , extreme, and radical. who the hell do these dictators think they are?
note poll question 25
who does this administration work for, the american people or obamas agenda? obama and his dem house and dem senate failed to bother to even pass a budget, and did not pass one since the nov midterms. he has offered no written budget plan, something that takes at least a month to complete with cbo checks, and belittles the only people who have, the house, and when we did pass a bill that 66% of americans support he trashes it and says it has no chance and will be vetoed, along with dirty harry reid. how much longer are you going to put up with this crap?
http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2011/images/07/21/rel11b.pdf
now who is not compromising? if you pay attention you know this is obama who is making this not work. if you say otherwise, you are a liar who spews obamas propaganda.
Increasing the taxes paid by people who make more than 250 thousand dollars a year: 73%; 26%; *
---
Your entire post just got blown up by the poll you referenced.
Steve Wynn speaks for himself. He hardly speaks for all business owners.
Joe and his ilk just hope nobody will check their references.
Since they never bother to check FOX's.
MY God even Grover Norquist has agreed with the president on this one and 80%of the country agrees with the president as well.
sure, 80% yep you and obama get your #s in the same place. i dont give a rats ass what grover and oscar says.

Democrats still oppose short-term US debt plan...
reported by Channel News Asia on 25 Jul 2011 see http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/afp_world_business/view/1142834/1/.html
The WORLD understands what is going on in the USA. I wonder why the US Citizens do not understand...
Joe, it's a bit odd that everybody here is against the balanced budget amendment, but still you say 74% are in favor of it. i believe that to be another example of twisted facts.
I am not a DEM, and I dont go for it.
G
Isn't it amazing that we don't hear that THEIR benefits won't be paid?
yes we know thats what you think, commie.
GE obamas "business partners in government" (definition of fascism)
paid no taxes last year, got sweet hart government strings pulled for them left and right, own msnbc, and shocker, their profits are up 21%, same year they paid ZERO taxes.
throwing stones in a glass house is not a good idea.
http://www.sacbee.com/2011/07/22/3787598/ge-2q-profit-up-21-percent-financial.html
@prof
That will solve the problem alright.
Just shows how the color of green is all that matters to the greedy.
http://www.cnn.com/2011/POLITICS/07/22/democrats.anger.obama/index.html?hpt=hp_t2
Forbes - What the Top U.S. Companies Pay in Taxes
pjam09 - You keep posting that same thing but really all it does is show how the republicans are refusing to compromise. Obama has given up so much to try to make a deal the democrats are mad at him. Don't you understand. You keep posting it like it bad for Obama, actually it's the opposite
NO LOYALTY TO YOU OR THE U.S. of A.) corporations that pull sh!t like this --
-- baffles me.
Just let them keep talking(writing). You don't even have to challenge them. Eventually the imbalance begins to ooze out the edges and cracks!
Oy. All I can do is shake my head and roll my eyes. Oh, hey, ya might wanna check but I think you may have dropped your tin foil hat. Good grief...
yes, any one who points out the progressive income tax was lauded by lennon as the one way to bring down capitalism, that the banking elite of the world are compromised of socialists and communists, like DSK, is a tin foil hat guy. yea socialism is for the little guy, sure.
Well, say what you will about Lennon's tax policy, but I think the music he made with Paul, George and Ringo was outstanding.
As we continue the process of the bankruptcy of our country...the liberals are saying "lets acknowledge all the good things about all this process and continue them because there is no other solution that we will accept"...
Federal Debt will bankrupt ALL citizens in this country!
The Dems want to sink the US fiscal ship by adding more debt and adding to needless social programs, when 1/2 of America PAYS NO FEDERAL INCOME TAX!
Where is the equity in being rewarded for not contirbuting?
Dems and Liberals seem unable to do math!
WarhammerThree
Bush is no longer in office, and the things Obama has implemented are taking America in the WRONG fiscal direction!
Two wrongs (Bush and Obama) do not make a right!
Warhammer...props for a proper "egads" in there. And you're right...both parties are to blame for decades of bad decisions.
Bohner bailed out today because he could not miss Happy Hour being the drunken A-Hole he continues to show time after time.
The current situation is insanity which is doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result.............
What are the federal government's sources of revenue?
Sources of federal revenue, Fiscal 1950-2008
Corporations are recording record profits and are sitting on over $1.9 TRILLION in cash. But NONE of it's going to workers:
Change in corporate profits and number of jobs in the U.S. since the start of the recession
Who is getting welfare in America?
Time for them to get a REAL $9.00 an hour job and see how the other 98% of Americans live.
once again the libs want to spend us into oblivion....we cannot sustain this spending...time to stop it...if not now,when??....
worst president in history acts like a child....boo hoo....
The president has agreed to countless spending cuts. The teabaggers have agreed to absolutely nothing. Who's really acting like a child here?
Check the record for who did the spending!

And who went stomping out today? I believe that is the childish behavior of Mr. Boehner.....
pjam09 - You keep posting that same thing but really all it does is show how the republicans are refusing to compromise. Obama has given up so much to try to make a deal the democrats are mad at him. Don't you understand. You keep posting it like it bad for Obama, actually it's the opposite
Ditto D-Nice. This post is getting pretty old.
When they are elected they are upper or middle class people but when they leave office they are millionaires how do you explain that
worst president in history acts like a child. Sorry that title still belongs to George Walker Bush.

Obama has to use the 14th Amendment, no other way out.
I have been trying to fine the section that says they are required to uphold the law of Grover Norquist? Isn't he just a private citizen?
norquist is the messenger boy, between the big money people and the GOP. he is actually very smart, and very evil.he promised those members of the GOP that he could guarantee success in their political career if they vowed to never vote to raise taxes. he then dumped loads of money into their campaign, to insure victory. the money came from the lobbyists, who got the tax breaks. of course the tax breaks were big money compared to the money spent on campaigns. norquist also stated that if any of his electees ever voted for tax increases that he would use the same tactics that got them elected, to make sure they lost in their next elections. noprquist is a snake. smart people know that you can't have dealings with snakes, because eventually they will bite you. that's why eric cantor will not let the debt ceiling be raised. some of the GOP believe that letting the country's credit tank will assure a victory in the white house in 2012. if that happens they will try to hang the blame on democrats. the tea party people will be gone after norquist gets what he wants from them. to answer your question, norquist is not an elected official, and he doesn't have to worry about himself being reelected. sorry i got off the track, i just get really pi--ed off when i see the country being held hostage by a little fruit cake who really doesn't care about america, just cares about his own personal gain.
Certainly is, what side is NBC and CNN going to come down on this? Fox is watching your terrible journalism!
'stop politicking and do your job as a public servant'. if you cannot perform, quit. let the others (who are willing) contnue to find proper solution benificial to all people. for once, try to serve the people. this is your mandate.
One man's dysfunction is another's shining light and hope for the future.
Lower the debt ceiling!
When a small band of zealots can call the shots-there is no hope or change possible.
I suspect the Banks and Land Lords are just frothing at the mouth to put people out of their homes IF the Republicans don't bend.
The 14th amendment has nothing to do with raising the debt ceiling! See 1935 Supreme Court ruling.
no leadership on either side of the aisle
Not increasing taxes is like quitting your job so you can pay off your Visa bill. Stupid.
What the government is doing now is like using one credit card to pay off another.
I think a Boehner as Pinocchio cartoon is in the works at Dreamworks!
